Though it's an unfinished cave, a visit can give you good idea of the how the work in progress sites looked like during the excavation of caves.

The is located at the end of the paved trail connecting the caves, starting from Cave 1. Looks like this was in the initial phase of excavation. The cave site  is a bit rough to trek and explore.

This marks the last of the caves in this hill. There  are two more caves (Cave 6 and Cave 7), located on the hill across the raven. These are not usually included in the tour itinerary.

Cannon Hill

A trail up to the hilltop takes you to an old military post overlooking the harbor.Two cannons were placed here to protect the harbour from pirates.

The name, Elephanta was given by the Portuguese as there was a large elephant sculpture in the island, when it was held by them as a naval outpost.Otherwise this island was known as Gharapuri.
